About our custom construction

Custom construction covers any project that doesn't fit a standard stud layout. You might call because your remodel calls for a curved wall, a built-in shelving niche, or a ceiling detail that changes the room's feel. The situation is usually that you have a design in mind, from an architect or your own sketches, and you need a crew that can frame and finish something out of the ordinary. We start by listening to what you want to build.

We begin by laying out the shape on the floor and ceiling, then cut and fasten curved or angled studs using a laser level and a chalk line. For arches or radius walls, we use flexible track and bendable drywall, sometimes laminating two layers for a smooth curve. Metal studs and specialty clips help with complex angles. We check every framing point with a straightedge and a level before we hang the board. Tape, mud, and sanding follow, with extra attention at each seam.

The cost and timeline shift with the complexity of the shape, the size of the structure, and the materials you choose. A simple soffit with one angle is faster than a multi-radius ceiling. Access matters: a tight attic or a second-floor room with narrow stairs adds time for moving materials. The condition of existing framing, the type of drywall (fire-rated, moisture-resistant, or standard), and weather that delays delivery all affect the schedule. We account for these factors when we plan the job.

On the day we start, we lay down drop cloths and plastic sheeting to protect floors and furniture. We set up a work zone and keep the rest of your home clear. After framing and finishing, we vacuum the dust and remove all debris, leaving the area clean enough for paint or tile. Before we arrive, you should clear the work space of anything breakable or valuable. After we finish, you can schedule a final walk-through to check the details.

Flexible track

A metal channel that bends to match curved layouts, used to anchor curved studs at the floor and ceiling for smooth radius walls.

Laminated drywall

Two layers of drywall glued and screwed together to create a strong, seamless curve without cracking at the bend.

Our 4-step custom construction process

01

Design review

We go over your plans or sketches, measure the space, and confirm the shape, dimensions, and materials needed for the custom structure.

02

Framing layout

We mark the shape on the floor and ceiling, cut flexible track and studs to match, and fasten the frame securely to the existing structure.

03

Drywall hanging

We cut and install drywall panels, bending or laminating them as needed, then fasten with screws at every stud for a tight fit.

04

Finish and clean

We tape, mud, and sand all seams and corners, then vacuum dust, remove debris, and protect the finished surface for paint or texture.

The difference

Why JF Drywall & Construction LLC for custom construction

  • Accurate layout

A curved or angled wall starts with precise layout. We use lasers and chalk lines to transfer your design onto the floor and ceiling, so the frame matches the plan exactly.

  • Smooth curves

Bending drywall without cracking takes the right materials and technique. We laminate panels for tight radiuses and use flexible track to keep the curve true from top to bottom.

  • Clean finish

Custom shapes have more seams and corners than flat walls. We tape and mud each joint carefully, sanding between coats to leave a surface that takes paint evenly.
